What I Am Up To
A sampling of recent activity and coming events

• The cold winter months saw me crisscross the country in training activities for banks and credit unions, whether for individual institutions, for state or regional associations, or in venues like the ICBA convention.
• As the weather warms up, my training schedule turns more and more to the banking schools. In the next few months, you can find me at schools like Stonier, Western States School of Banking, and Pacific Coast School of Banking, as well as delivering substantial curricula for ICBA and at ICBA West.
• I'm hearing about "efficiency" and "the efficiency ratio" a lot these days, as discussed in my recent article, "Inefficient Efficiency", in my Jeff's Thoughts e-zine. My latest one-question poll asks how often you are hearing the same terms around your bank.
• For credit unions and their service organizations looking for credit training, I have recently added a For Credit Unions training page to highlight that training I most frequently deliver for these institutions, with convenient downloads explaining my approach to CU needs.
• Knowledge & Skill: when staff do not know what they are supposed to do, or how to do it well, they increase risk. That's why banks, holding companies, and national and state associations draw on my training services to ensure personnel are capable of implementing preferred practices to achieve better risk outcomes. • Culture & Vision: bank leadership often devotes considerable effort to strategic planning only to discover that the front lines are applying a different approach. Far from a "soft issue," I have found a "tight" culture to provide a significant competitive advantage and necessary support for effective risk management. I help banks become more nimble and more successful at truly implementing strategic decisions through culture assessment and coaching/training services.
